So Blessed
(Written September 30, 2006)
“From the fullness of His grace, we have all received one blessing after another. (John 1:16)
Tonight God blessed me and my family. First, let me say that God blesses me every single day, every single breath, every single moment. And for those blessings, I am forever grateful to our most gracious Father in heaven. Tonight’s blessing, was extra special.
Our family went to see the movie “Facing the Giants.â€? My review of this incredible movie is for another day. The movie was fantastic, especially given the choices from today’s X-rated, violence driven movies. However, a movie review is not what this story is about. This is a story of God’s awesome power and glory.
Just so you know, Facing the Giants was about glorifying God. It was about praising Him not just in the good times, but in the bad times as well. It creatively showed that if you give everything to God, He will rain down blessings upon you like summertime showers. Most importantly, “With God, all things are possible.â€? (Matt 19:26). The movie depicted a story that made you weep with sorrow, and shout with joy. God’s grace was so intensely felt that your heart hurt, your lip quivered and your soul ached. When you weren’t wiping your tears, you were sitting on the edge of your seat with anticipation. God’s power and glory was evident. It inspired.
Tonight, God chose this movie to inspire our son. I watched him, watching the movie. His eyes were glued to every roll of the tape, and click of the projector. He was transfixed. I watched his eyes widen in amazement and weep with pure joy. He cheered for God’s soldiers and prayed for their success. And successful they were, because they inspired my 11 year old son to have faith in God at all times. To trust in Him and know that God will always be with him.
I believe that God helped create this movie. I hope that it inspires people of all walks of life, and all ages, to believe in Him, trust in Him, give Him all the glory, and He will bless you.
Tonight, my son was blessed. Long after we were home from the movie, he was still talking about how inspiring it was. This movie touched his heart. I pray he will keep that soul-drenching, heart pounding feeling with him the rest of his life. He was transformed. All the little things here and there he’s heard from his parents, from his church, from wherever, finally fell into place tonight. Blessings poured out like rays of sunshine. God spoke to his heart.
At bedtime, our son came to us and asked if we could have a family prayer. Can you believe it? An eleven year old boy that comes to you, and asked his family to come together to praise God. Even now, my eyes well with tears and my heart overflows with love.
Our little family of four sat down in a circle on the floor, held hands and prayed. My husband asked if he would like to lead the prayer, and he said yes, and suggested that it go around the circle. Our son bowed his head and started praising God for all the blessings he could think of, for all the good times and bad, for everything. His mouth couldn’t keep up with his little heart that was bursting to get it all out. With a gentle squeeze of my hand, my turn came next, and God again blessed me by removing the lump in my throat so that I too could praise Him. I thanked God for everything too, especially for the two beautiful children sitting next to us. I prayed that we would remember to keep Him in our hearts, our lives, and our every waking moments. My husband’s turn was next, and his eloquent praise came forth for the blessings of God as well. With the final squeeze of a tiny six year old’s hand, our daughter spoke up and prayed too. Even though the movie was far over her head tonight, she too was lead in her heart to praise God. Her soft little words melted my heart once more, and I silently praised God again.
Yes, we are so blessed.

Thank you for the praise report with your family. I was a supporting cast member in this film, playing the part of the lead radio announcer. Everything you have described is exactly what this film was intended to do. I lost my wife to cancer earlier this year, and there have been some incredible “giants” I have had and continue to face. But the message of the movie is clear, that with God, nothing is impossible, nothing is so small that it escapes His notice, and no hurt that we go through is beyond His gentle touch. He continues to give peace and encouragement even in the darkest of times. Yes, God did create this movie, and He has guided the presentation of the film every step of the way. He is good, and I rejoice with you and your family! Be blessed!
This is a wonderful movie. I was blessed as well when I took the youth group to see it. I am in Albany Ga and God has blessed this area many times in many ways and this movie is one of his greatest blessings as well as everyone involved. As a single mom I face many ‘giants’ and this movie served to remind me and my son that we can face these giants and God will take care of us. All things are possible through him.
Bobby, You and everyone involved with the movie touched me and many others. Thank you.
Blessed beyond measure. God was glorified, His saints edified and the world exposed to the beauty of the true and simple Gospel. Praise Him for the vision and faith to persevere.
Wow Sonya, You go girl,
I just can’t praise God enough for what he is doing through you. It’s amazing what He can do with the willing and the internet. All you have to do is be obedient to his promptings and He will do the rest. Just like this movie shows [have you read the washing post review] with God, ordinary people can do extraordinary things, simply because His word does not return void. So keep up the good work, you can obviously go farther than any of us ever dreamed. This is a good example of why we should dream big, and even then God will probably shock us beyond our wildest dreams. God bless you and all that you do to His glory and honor, amen
Love Doris
Dear Sonya, thanks for your posting. I couldn’t control my tears! I’m about to go watch the movie, and I’m glad I read your response. God bless you and your family.
Sonya,
You are right on!! I couldn’t agree more, we are so blessed.
What an awesome movie!!!
We saw it opening weekend twice – drove 90 miuntes each way to our closest theatre in Lombard, Illinois.
We took another family with us opening weekend and I took the guys from my small group last weekend. We are gathering 3 more families to caravan this weekend to see it. God is indeed using this movie in amazing ways.
We have a nine year old daughter who has recently been struggling with confidence issues. After seeing the movie I challenged her if she would face her fears; I would face mine. Monday night after school she couldn’t wait to tell me how she faced her fears one after the other. I asked her if God showed up and she said He sure did. I asked her what’s impossible with God – She said “nothing Dad”.
Bobby, You guys knocked it out of the park!! Thanks for giving us another way to reach our kids with God’s message of hope and faith.
Praying for your ministry.
I’ve seen Facing the Giants 4 times and each time it blesses me in a new way. I believe the movie has been annoited by God. I, like my friends who have seen the movie, feel that Facing the Giants could cause a revival in this country. We are confident the movie will have a special impact on husbands and teenagers.
i just wanted to say this movie is truly inspiring and haven’t quit talking about it since i saw it last weekend i took my mom-in-law to see it in tallahassee since it wasn’t in bainbridge ga and she was amazed!! i waited for this movie for months and passed the word along about it before it began tried to get the churches here to bring it here but they didn’t seem interested but i have gotten many thanks after they seen it for letting them know about it thank you to all the people that made this movie and made it possible for us to feel the power of god –in all things!!!!!! Can’t wait for the next one.
My 3 children and I just saw Facing the Giants with a group from our church at a local theater. We were so excited to see such a well-made movie with such an interesting story that everyone in the family can enjoy! Even my 7-yr.-old got the facing the Giants/ giants metaphor. My 10-yr.-old and I discussed how refreshing it was to watch a movie in which people talk about God and Jesus like we do. As a Christian, of course I appreciate the messages in this movie, but I am also happy that this is such a quality film that I can recommend that friends and family (Christians or not) spend money to see it. A movie can only be an effective witnessing tool/ source of encouragement if it is worth seeing.
My friend Pedro and I saw the movie tonight (we are both catholic) and it was a wonderful, inspiring film. I consider it one of the best movies I have ever seen. It really shows about how trusting in Jesus is so important in the good times and in the more difficult times. I highly recommend the movie for all teenagers and adults.
I am part of the Sherwood family and my heart is overfilled after reading testimonies about Facing the Giants. God’s power and blessings have been so overwhelming at times that all I can do is cry and thank HIM for what HE is doing through Alex and Stephen Kendrick and our church. My husband and I participated as a prayer warriors and fans in the stands during the filming and we feel so blessed to be a part of what God is doing. Many people have asked Christ in their hearts and lives have been changed and that’s what is all about isn’t it? You should also see the first movie, “Flywheel”-you can rent it at Blockbusters. Let’s send the message to Hollywood to bring more movies like this.
God Bless all of you.
